term review

there's the good and there's the no good.

no good.
for the past two months at work, even though i was given all the opportunities in the world, i manage to fail my boss' expectations =/ i slacked off. slacked off big time.
i feel guilt. i am guilty of sloth. also, in terms of money saving, i didn't manage to save 8000$ -_- but at least tuition portion is met.

good.
o_O

alright, plan B
unsloth myself.

so i'm reading this book called 'Cafe Triste' and it talks about a bit of everything. Well, a huge theme was freedom. And one of the interesting argument was if there's love, there's freedom. (sounds corny but the author really made it sound good). so anywhos, i would like to talk a bit about my two cents on freedom.

i never really put freedom in my list-o-to-do's. i want to climb mt everest but that's not because of freedom. i really never bothered to think much of freedom but to accept the fact that 'i have a shit load of freedom'. it may be debatable whether or not i do have a shit load of freedom (i.e. i'm actually following what the society tells me to do on a daily basis).

i live a simple life (to me, at least). it's about strong foundation, a search for a goal, a goal (or many goals), and effort. that, to me, is freedom, is strength, is love, is passion, is solution, is complexity, is simplicity, is my infrastructure.

for example, a recent goal i have is, meanwhile i find the exact goal i have in life (i.e. start a business, research, or stable job), i will continually study academically, practice music and sports, and train myself mentally through life experiences, books, teachings of others.

life is fucking awesome.

there's totally a market for that.

so wednesday i had a pleasant shopping evening avec beans. the yorkdale shopping was followed by dinner at Moxies. and there, i met a girl, the very my type of girl (i won't explain what she looks like; for now, just know she's the cute but not overdone-cute type). she happens to be our waitress for the evening. anywhos, as soon as we set down, i began to check her out and beans quickly caught on. there were numerous opportunities (according to beans) to start a conversation with her but i choked every time and i got mocked by beans hard (i shall revenge one day). all i could reply upon every word from her was "it's good, thanks". as the dinner approach an end, she passed the bill to me and said thanks. and i said 'thanks' back.
climax
after two pints of Big Life i made up my mind that i would write on the bill 'hi cheryl, can i get your number? - albert'. as i reached into my bag to retrieve my new ball-point pen, she walked at approx 4.2km/h towards my table which leaves me approx 0.7 seconds to pull my hand out of my bag.
>
she says 'can i get the bill?'
>
just when i was about to say gimme one more minute, she pulled out what i came to conclude, my worst enemy, my waterloo, my most behated (i dunno if that's even a word) engineering, my ultimate feer
[click to find out -__-]

i lost my confidence...beans says i suck.

hey, i'm a loser, but i don't suck.

so here i am, listening to eric clapton and and reading cross-game (it's chinese translation is 'lucky charm'. how can i put this, it's the first manga that made me cry. i really like the drawing, plot, everything detail. as a manga junky, this cross game is can be describe as 'just right' in every perspective.

i highly recommend it.

So, this term is wrapping up.

Work: getting some good project thrown at me. Go Stats! Pop those regressions.
Music: picked up my guitar from andy's and my target is to play at least one song in summer coffeehouse at bombers
sports: gotta work on the wrist for badminton and get rid of those fat on my calfs
book: almost done 'Fountainhead', quite debatable

man, there are two things i want to get that are a bit on the pricey side:
1. Nestle C100 espresso machine (200-300$)
2. electric accoustic guitar (600$)

but japan trip = 2000$???

haha, gotta pack more lunch and dinner @-@

Saturday, March 29, 2008

so last night i nosebled during my sleep. this morning when i blew my nose, there was a large amount of black (dead blood cell) gelatin (snot?) covering the cleanex. quite grotesque i must say.

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

so i have discovered yet another amazing talent that lies within me (within?). anywhos...

my co-worker commented that my funniness peaks right when i say

"hey guys, i have a joke."

and then afterwards that system (if we were to model the joke as a whole) decays like a damped oscillator (haxor'd by my insane lingo), or in other words, the actual joke doesn't matter anymore. at this instant of time [when my co-worker decided to comment on my hilarity], i pictured myself on the stage saying "Hey guys, i have a joke," and the audience just all laugh themselves to death.

anyways, i can imagine myself to be a promising stand-up comedian one day.

stuff to learn and master:
jazz - i gotta learn those fuking jazz chords.
jazz guitar - i saw an electric accoustic on the corporate classifieds ($400 for a Yamaha)
biology, sociology, and psychology - too interesting and i think will compliment engineering very well.

aite, time for antibiotics @_@
good nite.

Nose bleed = blood loss

Good news:
Presidential Candidate Ma was elected yesterday as the new president of Taiwan =) I'm happy because my mom is happy beyond speech (actually, quite the opposite) and so is Winnie. Me and my dad are just happy that there is finally a change in the political world in Taiwan.

Bad news:
My sickness got a little bit worse in that my eyes are now very red...i think it's a virus. sigh.

So i've been stuck home for the past two days when i should have been out there enjoying myself like 'em kids out there. instead, i practiced piano, watch House M.D., and read manga for majority of the day. actually...that's not that bad.

Oh ya, i was meaning to put post this joke I made a week ago. here goes:

so on my encounter w/ a cashier at Levi's store, the cashier was trying to scan the barcode on the bundle of nice socks i've decided to purchase.
"Hmph, these socks are give me trouble for the whole day" - says the cashier who's having trouble scanning the barcode
"oy, that socks." - me.

"...I'm a realist. Man has always insisted on making an ass of himself. Oh, come now, we must never lose our sense of humour. Nothing's really sacred but a sense of humour..." - Toohey [from the book 'Then Fountainhead' by Ayn Rand]

true that. PDEng should teach us how to be professionaly funny instead of bull-shitting professionalism.

Monday, February 25, 2008

so i bought a really nice tuque on queen street from Cheap Mondays.

and two books:

+Atlas Shrugged
+Fountain Head

both by ayn rand. =)

looking forward to read both books. They are recommended by a good co-worker of mine. she said these two books are matchable to 'east of eden'.

"these are all written back when literature did matter."

=]

i also went to montreal this past weekend avec yuki. smoke meat was smoking my heart away w/ deliciousness =9 i wished i could spent more time there tho. beautiful architecture =)

a post regarding Christianity
so i met a pastor on the train to taipei (1.5hrs)
i asked him a lot of questions and he answered i think all of them. i'm happy that i met this guy; he taught me many things that i didn't know (or forgotten) such as what does it mean to be a christian, etc.
on a side note: i do believe in god (you will after you learn Linear Signals and Systems) and i thank him for many things (i.e. my love ones, my life, Linear Signals and Systems, etc).
right now, i'm still pondering one thing: do i need to be a christian? does a person need to be a christian? why? i guess maybe i need to discuss this further with that pastor guy.

new year resolution

1)improve my back/eyes: health comes first! must not feel soreness by march 08
2)pass pdeng 25: regain dignity
3)get outstanding during work-term
4)save 90% income before tuition + plane tickets + investments

any other suggestions?

Taiwan-ing
-chilled in taipei w/ Yuki san =] i think i got my point across regarding that taiwan has good food. looking forward to some home-meals next term ;)
-it's really awesome to spend time w/ parents. learned some more of those good o' parent wisdom:

i dunno if this is grammatically correct...

Saturday, November 03, 2007

so, it's novermber, it's a good month.

finally got a job - monitoring and compliance for Ontario Power Generation.
awesome pay, awesome location, i will update about the job later =)

also, for the first time in my life, i experienced what it feels like being an emcee on the stage. although i am not even close to being a master of ceromonies, i felt like i will remember this special event for the rest of my life. it's cool, when opportunity comes, seize it, and then enjoy working through it.

i can't help but to think that i'm getting lucky and luckier as i grow up.
sure, the fall gets more and more painful and more and more frequent, but i now know how to get up and jump higher. -this is fucking great.

here's some of good o' alberto's list of recommendation:
-d/l Bob Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone if you haven't yet, it's ranked #1 on Rolling Stone magazine's top 500 songs of all time.
-everyone needs a hug when they are down - one of the contestants in the singing competition was way too nervous so i hugged him. i think he sang okay afterwards.
-youtube -> hardgay (start with the Ramen story)
-buy gap stocks (NYSE: GPS), i bought it, and it will go up 10+% before Feb08
-d/l 'stars', 'Livin' in a new world', 'sacrifice' by the Roots
-try Son's beef noodle soup, located at Finch/Midland.

Wednesday, October 10, 2007
